When it comes to highly-anticipated game releases, there aren't many fans out there as ravenous as Hollow Knight players. Silksong has been in development for what feels like an eternity, and combined with a lack of updates from developer Team Cherry, any morsel of official news sends the fanbase into overdrive. Even a minor development update is enough to whip up a frenzy, as showcased by Matthew Griffin, a person in charge of marketing and publishing for Hollow Knight: Silksong.

In a tweet earlier today, Griffin updates Hollow Knight fans on how development is faring at the moment, revealing that the title was intially meant to launch in the first half of 2023 but has now been pushed back. He explains that the reason for the delay is because Silksong has "gotten quite big" and that Team Cherry is taking time to "make the game as good as we can". He also assures fans that development is "still continuing" and to "expect more details" closer to release. Granted, we still don't know when release is, but at least it's something.

While Griffin's statement doesn't include much to go off of, it does suggest that Silksong is still expected to release at some point this year. Xbox stated last year that Silksong would launch before June 12 this year, which was pretty much confirmation of a 2023 release. If Team Cherry was planning to push the game's launch into 2024, you'd imagine Griffin's update would be a little more somber in tone.

As you can probably imagine from a fanbase currently starved of official news, the reactions are definitely mixed. Hop into the tweet's replies, and you'll be greeted with a mixture of excitement, nervousness, despair, and people wishing Team Cherry the best and for them to take their time. Sure, it's a little disappointing that the game was supposed to have launched by now, but at least it seems like the game will still launch later this year as expected.

Given that we still don''t have a firm release date just yet, it's possible we could see more of the game itself this summer. However, if Griffin's comments about hearing more news closer to release are anything to go by, it may decide to skip this year's events entirely.
