Star Wars Jedi fans are pointing out just how badly Darth Vader's year went in 9 BBY, from his encounter and rematch with Obi-Wan Kenobi to the events of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

The Star Wars timeline has always been a little bit funny, with its multiple eras spread across different trilogies, mediums, characters, and spin-offs, all of which usually interconnect with one another. Simply put, there's a lot going on in Star Wars at any given time, but there's one particular year that went incredibly badly for one major character - Darth Vader was having a bad time in 9 BBY, you guys. Spoilers for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor follow, so make sure you've finished the game before reading on.

Over on the Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor subreddit, Redditor 755goodmorning started a thread pointing out that 9 BBY, the year that Jedi: Survivor takes place in, was by far the worst year for Darth Vader. Well, aside from that time he was chopped into pieces and burned alive, that one was pretty rough too.

Before the events of Jedi: Survivor, things were looking pretty good for old Darth. Not only had he rebuilt the Fortress Inquisitorius, but he also managed to find Obi-Wan Kenobi after years of searching. Things quickly took a turn for the worse when Reva turned to the Light Side and Obi-Wan manages to kick his ass with a bunch of rocks. As pointed out by 755goodmorning, Darth Sidious then gives him a good telling off for all his failings.

Getting bodied by your old master and then told off by your new one is a bad enough start to the year, but that brings us to what happens in Jedi: Survivor, which notably takes place in the same year as Kenobi. As we were all guessing after hearing that information, Darth Vader does indeed make an appearance in the game, being sent to Jedha to investigate Cere's hidden Jedi hideout. Vader goes there expecting to find a bunch of Jedi to slaughter, only to get absolutely wrecked and the closest to death we've seen him in a game.

Sure, Vader does get his own revenge on Cere for the beatdown, but it's still the second time that a random Jedi manages to take him down a notch. Cal then manages to best Vader again by taking the Hidden Path data away from him while he's distracted by Cere. With two massive defeats under his belt all in the same year, it's a wonder that Vader is walking around as proudly as he does by A New Hope.
