There are many great weapons in the Resident Evil series, some of which are featured in Resident Evil 7. However, while roaming around the Bakers' house, you may also come across a toy axe.
It's difficult enough to take down the various monsters in the game with real weapons, so a toy isn't going to be effective at all. The in-game description even points out its uselessness in combat. Yet, what's not immediately obvious is that the item does actually have a use outside of battle. In this guide, we'll outline the full explanation of how to utilize the child's plaything.

How To Find The Toy Axe
Before you have to beat Jack in the tricky garage fight, you meet a deputy who doesn't have the best time. Then later, you reunite with what's left of him and gain the Snake key as a result. Once you've got this item, you're able to get your hands on the toy axe.
Use the key to open the door to the kid's room on the second floor of the main house. Then, find the seemingly typical lamp that's on the table, and rotate it to find a secret button that releases the attic ladder.
Climb up, and then turn right around and head into the back corner of the room. There will be some metal shelving, and the toy axe will be on the bottom shelf.
Using The Toy Axe
The toy axe's only purpose is to help you complete the shadow puzzle in the Yard. You may be thinking there isn't a shadow puzzle in that location, as it's something most people miss in their first playthrough.
However, there is a hidden contraption behind some greenery. To find it, head left as soon as you enter the Yard from the house. Go toward the corner next to the house and through the bushes. At this point, you should see some numbers on the wall, a little podium, and a closed chest — this is the puzzle.
How To Complete The Shadow Puzzle
At this point in the game, you won't be a rookie when it comes to shadow puzzles. And, as you know, the toy is involved, so it'll be pretty easy to figure out what you need to do.
Interact with the podium and select the toy axe from your inventory. You may notice that the sequence of numbers on the wall is clearly missing a seven. So, move your axe around until its shadow looks like the absentee number.
When it's in the correct position, the shadow will magically burn into the wall, which causes the chest to open up. You can then grab the stabilizer that's inside.
If you don't know, a stabilizer increases Ethan's reload speed. Therefore, the seemingly useless plaything actually helped make you more likely to survive the rest of the horrors you're about to face — and you may need all the help you can get, as there is a number of challenging bosses in the game.
