Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is the big game of the moment and EA is certainly enjoying the success the sequel is having. It seems a great many have bought a copy to catch up with the adventures of Cal Kestis and his crew, even if many of you will also be abandoning it in favour of Tears of the Kingdom very soon.

Lots are enjoying Survivor's expanded gameplay and world from its predecessor while it's certainly large enough to contain a number of Easter eggs and hide secrets and surprises. As players are getting to grips with Survivor more of these are coming out. But one recent highlight could well be very difficult to uncover, according to Respawn.

On the FallenOrder subreddit, where fans have congregated for discussions about Survivor too, a recent post highlighted an encounter hitherto not much seen. "WHAT IN THE EVER LOVING ACTUAL F*** JUST HAPPENED?!" the title exclaims. "WAS THIS A GLITCH?!" Included is a clip of the events that transpired.

WHAT IN THE EVER LOVING ACTUAL F*** JUST HAPPENED?! WAS THIS A GLITCH?!

The clip shows Cal Kestis with questionable hair fending off some troopers on the planet Koboh. But then, suddenly, and seemingly randomly, the hideous and powerful beast known as a rancor turns up and quickly makes short work of poor old Cal. The suddenness and surprise clearly catches out the OP, while in the comments in the above thread someone says, "I'm inclined to think it's a glitch".

However, over on Twitter, senior encounter designer on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Patrick Wren, decided to add some truth to the matter with the implication that it was in fact intended to be like that. "I loved the dynamic patrols that Lee did for #StarWarsJediSurvivor," he tweeted. "The Valley on Koboh feels so much more alive and changes as you progress the story."

But for those who now expect random Rancor encounters in their playthrough, think again. Wren added: "Of course, there is a very small chance of what happens below too." This suggests that while the encounter is baked into the game, it is also likely coded in such a way as to not occur very often, which is probably for the best since not every player will appreciate getting interrupted in such a way regularly.

Jedi: Survivor is a big follow-up to Fallen Order and the open-world aspect of Koboh is an example of that, while the patrols that have been slotted in definitely help to make it feel more alive and dynamic. A random Rancor encounter will certainly liven things up, too.
