Despite a lot of people moving onto Tears of the Kingdom this weekend, plenty of people will be continuing their Star Wars Jedi: Survivor playthroughs. Survivor takes place in a pretty massive open world spanning multiple planets, so it only makes sense that new details, such as the discovery Cal Kestis uses an attack that was first bestowed upon Darth Maul in Battlefront 2, are only just being pointed out.

Mild spoiler for those of you just starting your Survivor journeys as the ability highlighted isn't one Cal starts with. It can be quickly unlocked if you spend your skill points wisely, though. Cal spins his double-bladed lightsaber and dives forward, dealing a significant amount of damage to anyone standing in his way. If you haven't unlocked it already, I would highly recommend doing so.

Daily Star Wars Games has posted a gif of Cal performing the move, pairing it with the exact same one Darth Maul uses in Battlefront 2. A pretty cool little detail and an animation that has understandably been reused by EA because why not? However, some players appear to think this is a bad thing, accusing the devs of being lazy for reusing an animation from one of its previous games.

I may be dropping a bombshell here, but there are a finite number of things even the most skilled Jedi can do with a double-bladed lightsaber. Diving forward while spinning is one of the more creative moves, and even if the animation for it wasn't reused, it's going to look more or less identical regardless of the game in which it is used.

Bombshell number two, developers reuse animations, because again, why not? Respawn has been praised for getting Survivor out there less than four years after the launch of Fallen Order. If the studio were to ask its animators to create entirely new and unique animations for absolutely everything, then it would take a lot more than four years to get a new game out there. If there's an animation from a previous game that can be used and it makes sense, get it in there.

Jedi: Survivor is far from the first game to receive unwarranted criticism for reusing animations from older games. God of War Ragnarok was lambasted by some for having Kratos get into boats in the same way that he did in the previous game. Forgetting that it's a terrific way to make sure a game's development doesn't drag on forever, why did God of War players think Kratos would climb into a boat differently just because Ragnarok was coming?
