Rayvis is among the hardest bosses you will encounter in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. He's not only a heavy hitter with a number of potent ranged attacks, but he also has two distinct forms. This, unfortunately, means he gets two health bars. Needless to say, this can be quite the pain in the butt.

However, where there is a problem, there is always a solution. We will instruct you in how to dismantle this regenerating monstrosity's most potent attacks, while also giving you a few preparation tips so that you can begin this encounter on the right foot.

Rayvis: First Phase Attacks

One of Rayvis' favorite things to do is get a little distance and then light you up with his blaster shots. He will also start charging forward while firing off his blaster volleys at a certain point in the battle. This is why we strongly recommend that you start this battle with the Double Bladed lightsaber stance equipped.

As you are probably aware, you simply need to time the first shot of a blaster volley, and then hold the defend button down to reflect the entire volley back at an opponent when using this stance. So, it is perfect for mauling Rayvis with reflected shots when he is trying to perforate you with his blaster rifle—which is something he does often.

Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Cal force pushing Rayvis' missiles

While at a distance, Rayvis will also send a whole host of missiles your way. If you have upgraded your Force Push to be able to hit multiple targets, you can detonate all of these missiles before they ever get to you; you will also push one into Rayvis himself for a little damage and a stun. For this reason alone, we recommend investing the necessary points to obtain this upgraded Force Push.

Rayvis' melee attacks are also quite rangy. He has two that he will use quite often. One is unparryable. Here, he will flash red, wind up, and then send a straight shot your way. When you see him raise his leg, it is time to prepare to dodge. If he sends a standard straight shot directly at you, he will always follow up with a second ranged attack. This first attack is pretty slow with a very obvious windup, but the second attack comes out pretty frightfully quickly, and it can catch you mid-jump or dash. The best solution here is to simply stand still and then try to parry the second attack. Though, more often than not, if you stand still, that second attack will miss you if you.

Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Cal parrying Rayvis' standard mace combo

In general, Rayvis is very much a boss who strikes with linear attacks. However, he does have one unparryable attack that does hit all around him. When he does this he will flash red (naturally) and then take a step backward. At which point he will swing his flail all around himself. Thankfully, the range isn't great, and you will have plenty of time to react. Once you see him take that step backward, jump into the air, and dash away.

Just in case you haven't been utilizing it already, your air dash is incredibly fast and makes for an excellent evasive tool.

Up close, Rayvis will use fewer linear attacks, and will instead use a combat that features wide, horizontal swings. This combo is two horizontal swings of his mace, followed by a third, unparryable, vertical attack. However, this combo has giant gaps in between each attack. We found that we were consistently able to land double-ended lightsaber attacks in between each parry. So, the combo would go attack, parry, attack, parry, attack, dodge to the side.

Rayvis has another up-close melee combo that he uses. Here his weapon will be in its maul form. This combo has two variations. Punch, backhand, uppercut, followed by an unparryable vertical swing with his mace, or, uppercut, mace swing, unparryable linear flail attack. Either way, the strikes are too fast for you to wedge any attacks in between, so you just need to parry them and then dodge the unparryable attack to the side.

So, functionally, the only thing that changes is that you parry twice with the combo starts with an uppercut, and you parry three times when it starts with a lunging punch. In both instances, you will be able to land an attack of your own as he recovers after using his unparryable attack.

Rayvis: First Phase General Strategy

So, we like to keep out the Double Bladed Lightsaber out most of the time. As we discussed above, the Double Bladed attacks fit perfectly in between the attacks in his combo. So, we use it up close. When Rayvis jumps away, he will often fire his blaster as he does, use this Double Bladed lightsaber stance to reflect these back at him.

Now, when he is at a distance, it is a solid idea to switch to your Blaster stance and hit him with a few shots. However, once he approaches again, switch back to the Double Bladed stance. Also, if you see him starting to fire off his missiles, charge that Force Push and interrupt them. You will quickly ware him down by deflecting his laser blasts back at him, by hit hitting him during that flail combo, and by landing stray shots when he is stunned after a perfect parry.

Rayvis: Second Phase Attacks

Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Cal air dashing away from the explosions

Here Rayvis becomes substantially more aggressive. He will use the attack where he jumps back and fires his blaster more often. However, he will now follow that up by firing his pistol while also firing off his missiles. This makes it pretty much impossible to Force Push the missiles. So, instead, reflect his blaster shots back at him, then, once he stops firing at you, immediately perform a jump dash backward. This will allow you to escape his missiles every single time, unless, that is, you have your back up against the wall. This is why you shouldn't ever have your back up against the wall during the second phase of this battle.

Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Cal parrying Rayvis' combo in the second phase of the battle

Fighting Rayvis up close in the second form is pretty dead simple. Nearly every parryable attack will be a wide swing, and he will end them all with a linear unparryable attack. His standard melee attacks are quite a bit quicker now, however, and these combos can go on for quite some time. So, the plan is definitely to keep hitting those parries and to break his posture.

While the rule of thumb here is that Rayvis' parryable attacks are nearly always horizontal swings, and his unparryable will almost always be vertical, linear attacks, there is an exception or two. He does have one unparryable horizontal attack in his second form, and he will use it at close range. So, if he is flashing red, and slowly twisting his body around, an unparryable horizontal swing is coming. Thankfully, the tell here is very obvious, and you will have lots of time to react. Just jump dash away.

Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Cal getting tossed into the air and clubbed

One new trick Rayvis gets is a grab attack. If he gets ahold of you, he will toss you into the air, and slam you with his mace. This attack always starts with him running. So, if he is sprinting toward you, and flashing red, air dash away. Otherwise, he is going to scoop you up and deal massive damage.

Rayvis: Second Phase General StrategyStar Wars Jedi Survivor, Cal deflecting a shot back at Rayvis'

There is good news and bad news here. In general, Rayvis is WAY more aggressive, so we feel like stance-switching during this phase is a little less viable. You are best off holding onto that Double Bladed lightsaber for this battle. On the plus size, he is always firing that blaster in this phase, which is just free damage when you have the Double Bladed lightsaber equipped.

In general, you are going to be deflecting blaster shots, air dashing away from Rayvis when he charges you with his grab attack—or fires missiles at you—and parrying his long strings of melee attacks. It is easy to get a little overwhelmed, but if you do those three things, you will almost certainly have Rayvis on his knees in the blink of an eye.
