Cal Kestis has learned a lot of new moves in the years between Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Along with several new Force abilities like the iconic Jedi mind trick and Force Confuse, Cal also has several new stances to help him in his new adventure, including Dual Wield, Blaster, and Crossguard.

Although you'll get the new Dual Wield stance pretty early on in the game, the other two stances take a bit more work to get your hands on. We've previously detailed how to unlock the Blaster stance, but in this guide, we're going to walk you through how to get the third and final new stance - the Kylo Ren-esque Crossguard stance.

How To Unlock The Crossguard Stance

Jedi: Survivor's description for the Crossguard stance.

The Crossguard stance is found on Koboh's Shattered Moon, which is unlocked after you beat the game's third planet, Jedha. Once you beat the main story quest there, Cal will be given two quests to follow, one on Koboh and another on its Shattered Moon.

Since the Crossguard stance is on the moon, we're going to recommend you go there first to get it unlocked as soon as possible, as it's quite a powerful tool in Cal's kit.

Once you're on Koboh's Shattered Moon, you simply need to follow the main story quest of the planet and keep on the main path. Unlike Koboh, the Shattered Moon is a lot more linear, which means that the Crossguard stance is impossible to miss.

Its precise location is in an area called the Superstructure Fabricators - you'll know you're in the right place when you reach a circular room with a device on the table for you to pick up.

After you've picked the device up, you'll get ambushed by Drya Thornne, a crossguard-lightsaber-wielding enemy who acts as a boss fight. The Crossguard lightsaber might make him seem fearsome, but he's one of the easier bosses in the game, and just requires you to time your parries right and keep whittling his health down.

His only troublesome attack is one where he turns himself invisible, but he's still an easy fight, especially compared to optional bosses like Oggdo Bogdo and the Rancor.

The Blaster stance is perfect for the fight against Drya Thornne. When he turns himself invisible, you can simply shoot him once to remove the invisibility shield, which makes the fight a lot easier.

Keep up your parries and Thornne will go down with no problem. After that, a cutscene will play where Cal takes the custom crossguard emitter for himself and unlock the stance for you to use. You'll then get a Meditation Point and a brief walkthrough of how to use the stance, before being able to continue through Koboh's Shattered Moon.

How To Use The Crossguard Stance

The Crossguard stance is Cal's most powerful, dealing heavy damage to block and health with each swing - think of a broadsword in Dark Souls and you've got the right idea. Its Force attack (performed by pressing Triangle or Y) lets Cal perform an incredibly strong upwards slash, although you'll want to make sure that you've got enough time for the two-second windup.

In fact, time is the biggest downside of the Crossguard stance - every attack takes a lot longer to execute, which means that you need to be sure that Cal is going to hit whatever he's aiming at before the enemy can counterattack. There's also less of a lock-on than with the other stances, which means that the game won't compensate for distance and make sure your attack connects - making sure you're in range is crucial with the Crossguard.

Thankfully, the Crossguard also has the highest stamina out of any of the stances, which means that you can correct any misjudged attacks by blocking and focusing on parries. It can be a little hard to figure out compared to the simplicity of the Single and Dual Wield stances, but once you've figured it out, it's easily one of Cal's most powerful movesets. It also has a dropkick, which makes it an instant winner in my books.
