The lore of The Elder Scrolls is vast and mysterious. Centuries span into millennia, with the annals of history divided into six eras. In a world so lived in, even Gods succumb to time, like empires and stone. By the time of Skyrim, historians have a difficult time knowing fact from fiction.

One of these events that draws attention from scholars, both in-game and out, is the Warp in the West. It's the result of all of Daggerfall's endings being collapsed into a single timeline, and, as a result, it defined much of the Cyrodiil we know today.

9 It Established Dragon Breaks For The Series

The Warp in the West is the first we ever learned of Dragon Breaks. When the weight of destiny and action becomes so dense in one place and time, time itself can shatter, and multiple events that would have happened in different timelines become true at once.

When games, and RPGs in particular, develop a sequel, they have to chose what endings or events from the previous game will be canon in the next. Some developers try to make as little reference to the predecessor as possible, but Bethesda had the idea to acknowledge everything in-universe through Dragon Breaks.

The name for the Dragon Break comes from the Dragon God, Akatosh, the God of Time. When the "dragon breaks," it is referring to Akatosh himself being metaphorically, or perhaps literally, ripped asunder.

Akatosh being torn may be why the mending of a Dragon Break results in multiple timelines becoming real at once to begin with. Akatosh's broken pieces gives each timeline form and function. So then, when Akatosh is mended, they bring with them a part of every timeline.

8 It Lasted Only Three Days

The Warp in the West is a surprisingly short event. Despite how much can be done in Daggerfall, the true story assumes it only took you three days to accomplish everything, and each ending all happened simultaneously over three days.

The short time frame left most witnesses to the event completely dumbfounded at what had happened. People knew their kingdom had won out, yet, they also witnessed several other universes where they'd died. Many others reported as if time itself stood still.

7 Numidium Destroyed

The Numidium itself may be the cause of the Dragon Break. It should be said somewhere that most of The Elder Scrolls lore is written in hyperbole, hypotheticals, and forum posts by the creators. This is to say, it's suspected that any time the Numidium is used, a Dragon Break will occur.

To remove this power once and for all, The Underking destroys the Numidium, along with himself in one ending. In all the other endings, it's used to conquer the Iliac Bay before the Underking shows up to destroy it and himself.

6 The Iliac Bay - The Miracle Of Peace

The Kings of the Iliac Bay were vying for dominance of the region, and most of Daggerfall's endings result in one of them rising above the others. Because of this, when the timelines were mended, each of the kingdoms had experienced the thrills and troughs of victory and defeat.

The three crowns were technically all defeated, and thus left with peace treaties with one another. This became known as the Miracle of Peace, and led to the kingdoms of Daggerfall, Sentinal, and Wayrest being firmly cemented for the rest of the era.

5 Orcs Claim A New Homeland

The fourth kingdom working in the Iliac Bay are the orcs of the Wrothgarian Mountains. They seek to establish a homeland for orcs, known as Orsinium, that will be formally recognized by the Imperial Empire. To do so, they would use the power of the Numidium to establish themselves as the military superpower of the Iliac Bay.

After the Dragon Break, Orsinium would remain a strong regional power, and it would establish itself as a great political ally. Though they wouldn't join the Empire, Orcs would go on to be seen prominently in Cyrodiil during the time of the Oblivion Crisis.

4 The Underking Finally Passes

The Underking's Ending is arguably the most peaceful of all. Five out of the seven see one kingdom conquering the rest, and another one sees a necromancer ascend to godhood. The Underking just wants one thing, however; he really wants to die.

By using the power of the Mantella, the Numidium's power source, and a piece of the Underking's very heart, he can return to a mortal state where he can promptly die. The Underking's identity is subject to some debate, but he was either the husk Zurin Arctus who Tiber Septim betrayed, or he was what remained of Ysmir Wulfharth, who Tiber Septim also betrayed. Either way, this all left his soul desperate for release.

3 The Necromancer Moon Was Forged

Another relatively harmless ending comes if you side with the King of Worms, Mannimarco. The Worm King's exploits happened long ago, and he was honestly kind of a horrible man. He was instrumental in aiding a Deadric Prince in invading the mortal realm of Nirn, and he ruled the Imperial Empire as a shadow king.

That's why it's 'relatively'harmless to help him now. Mannimarco wants to ascend to godhood, and somehow there's less harm he can do there, as gods are bound by a plethora of rules and magical boundaries. In accomplishing his goals he becomes a celestial body, the Necromancer Moon, that empowers necromancy any time he's in the sky.

2 The Empires Strength Becomes Unquestionable

If you help the empire, you essentially cement their total rule over all of Tamriel. With the power of the Numidium, there would be no diplomacy, or negotiations. Thankfully, the Miracle of Peace affected the Empire as well.

The cementation of the Empire's rule was fact. That much was certain, so that even in their peace agreements, everyone would still come under the Empire's rule in one form or another. For the Iliac Bay, this would mean trade and political alliances, and to the North, which would have been conquered, Imperial colonists would be given freedom to live where they please.

1 Talos Is Born

A statue of Talos in reference in Skyrim the video game

The most impactful result of the Warp in the West is undoubtedly the birth of Talos. Prior to Morrowind, there was no mention of a Talos, or any man-god. Talos wouldn't form until the total deaths of Tiber Septim, Zurin Arctus, and Ysmir Wulfharth. The power of the three laid dormant in the Numidium and Idol of Tiber Septim, and their destruction birthed Talos.

These three are all Shezarrine, or reincarnations of the missing god Lorkhan. To make things more complicated, Tiber Septim is the Oversoul, or fusion of, Talos Stormcrown and Zurin Arctus. You'll have to ignore how Arctus and Septim exist at the same time, because it gets worse, as Talos Stormcrown is the Oversoul of Ysmir Wulfharth and another Shezarrine.

Talos is two people, and one of those people is two people, and all five of these people lived at the same time. Also, Talos may have created himself by creating Tiber Septim, who would create Talos, and... listen, no one said this was simple.
