There are quite a lot of steps involved when you get a new character in Honkai: Star Rail. If you're lucky enough to pull a five-star limited character like Jing Yuan, you'll first have to focus on getting his best Relics, Light Cones, and upgrading his Traces, which is a monumental task in itself.
Once you're done building the character, you'll then be looking for the best team members that support their play style. There are over 20 characters in the game, and only a few of them can bring out the true potential in the general of The Xianzhou Luofu.
7 Tingyun
Tingyun is one of the characters featured in the first Jing Yuan banner, which makes it easier to get her alongside the five-star character himself. Her Skill and Ultimate can increase Jing Yuan's DMG and allow him to use more Ultimates, which will let you have ten stacks on the Lightning Lord consistently.
Moreover, there's a Harmony Light Cone called Planetary Rendezvous that increases the ally DMG by 24 percent at Superimposition five if they deal the same type of damage as the person having this Light Cone. Both Tingyun and Jing Yuan are Lightning characters, which allows her to buff him even more using that Light Cone.
6 Himeko
Just like Jing Yuan, Himeko is another five-star Erudition character, except she has Fire as a combat type. You can get her on the Stellar Warp banner or if you lose your 50:50 on the character event banner. Beside Himeko's portrait at the bottom during battle, you'll be able to see the current stacks you possess out of three.
These stacks increase by one every time an enemy loses its Toughness bar and Weakness Break is triggered. When you trigger three Weakness Breaks, Himeko launches an AoE follow-up attack that deals a ton of damage. The reason this synergizes super well with Jing Yuan is that he's great at shredding the Toughness bar.
His Skill and Ultimate both hit every character on the field, which means that they all lose a bunch of Toughness as far as they're weak to Lightning. Moreover, if you have seven or more stacks on the Lightning Lord, you'll be able to see their Toughness get demolished in no time.
5 Welt
Honkai Impact 3rd fans will feel a close connection to Welt in Honkai: Star Rail, and he's also one of the Standard Banner characters in the game. He can apply the Imprisonment effect on the enemies by breaking their Toughness bar and using his Ultimate. This effect delays the enemy's action massively.
SPD is one of the most important stats on Jing Yuan since you'd always want to use at least two Skills in between two Lightning Lord's attacks. The slow provided by Welt also helps with that since the enemies get fewer chances of attacking you. All of this goes very well together since Jing Yuan's Lord also gets extra SPD when you get the stacks.
4 Pela
There are plenty of characters that can increase your character's ATK and DMG, but only a few characters can decrease an opponent's DEF. Pela is a four-star Nihility character who can do that using her Ultimate. She applies the DEF shred to all the enemies on the field when using the Ultimate.
This allows you to deal even more damage from Jing Yuan's Lightning Lord and Ultimate if you time it correctly. Moreover, some enemies can have a one-hit barrier and it can be quite troublesome if this barrier prevents all the damage from your Lightning Lord. Pela can prevent this from happening since her Ultimate also damages them and removes these barriers.
3 Natasha
Honkai: Star Rail features a turn-based combat system, which means all of your characters will be on the field at all times. This leaves your squishy DPS characters like Jing Yuan susceptible to enemy damage. Healers and shielders are extremely important in the game because of that, and Natasha is the best one.
Not only does she heal your characters through the Skill and Ultimate, but also removes one of their debuffs if you have a certain bonus ability unlocked. This will prevent Jing Yuan from getting crowd-controlled for too long as that also prevents the Lightning Lord from taking action.
2 Herta
We can't talk about the best team members for a character involving follow-up attacks and not mention Herta. She's a four-star character that you can get up to Eidolon three for free simply by finishing the first difficulty of Simulated Universe on all the worlds. Her follow-up attack is triggered whenever the enemy goes below 50 percent health.
This synergizes well with Jing Yuan since his Lightning Lord will bring a bunch of enemies below the required health threshold. This is perfect for times when the surrounding smaller enemies are left with one health after the Lord's attack so you won't have to waste a character's turn to get rid of them.
1 Bronya
Bronya is a staple five-star character who can work well with any DPS in the game regardless of their path and combat type. Her Skill can give one character an instant turn, remove a debuff from them, and increase their DMG for the next turn. She can also increase all her allies' Crit DMG through the Ultimate.
All these buffs provided suit every character including Jing Yuan. He already gets around 24 percent Crit Rate from his Traces, so the extra Crit DMG from Bronya and Relics can make him do some astonishing damage.
