Resident Evil 5 is seemingly up next on the remake docket, with teases sprinkled throughout Resi4, but there are a lot of burning questions as to how Capcom will approach such a divisive game. It ditched the iconic Merchant for post-chapter menu stores, and completely abandoned the attache case inventory system, creating more room for an all-in action spectacle, culminating in Chris Redfield's iconic boulder punch.

As it looks more and more likely that Capcom will brave those controversial waters to remake Resi5, fans are looking at the series' past for their wishlist of changes, like bringing back a Merchant-type character to better immerse us in this world. That, and it's just fun to have a snarky salesman magically popping up everywhere to sell us RPGs.

"If Capcom remakes Resident Evil 5 I want them to add a merchant character," Kitty_eh14 posted on Reddit, with 1.3k upvotes as of writing. "I thought it was boring in RE5 that the shop was an end chapter screen. The merchant could easily be integrated into the story as a blackmarket dealer."

Resident Evil 4 isn't the only game in the series to have a Merchant-type character. Village had its own travelling salesman called The Duke. How he got from point to point faster than we did, handily with new stock, is unclear, but he did tease that he was friends with the Merchant, so maybe there's a network of them out there somewhere.

The question is, who would Resi5's Merchant be? "What about the guy that gives you the weapons at the beginning," Superior_Inc said. "The one that gets beheaded by the executioner. Could easily be the merchant of Resident Evil 5."

Sanguiluna added, "Have him die by the end of every chapter in some way, and then when he shows up again in the next chapter there's no explanation or big deal made about it."

Chris and Sheva in Resident Evil 5.

mao8mog put forward the idea of simply keeping Resident Evil 4's Merchant so that he can meet Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar. Maybe he was exploring the world to find more wares to peddle, going from himbo to beefcake to sell as many first-aid sprays as possible.

They also suggested, as did others in the comment section, that the attache case should make a comeback in place of Resi5's inventory. Essentially, make Resident Evil 5 more like 4 - maybe they're onto something here.

We don't know what Capcom has up its sleeve, or if we'll even get another remake, but that hasn't stopped fans from speculating, and if Resi5 really is up next, who could say no to another Merchant?
