If you've played The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild you may be pleasantly surprised when you head to a stable in Tears of the Kingdom and learn that all your lovely horses from the first game are available in the second. You may be quickly disappointed when you learn that their gear hasn't been brought over.

Fortunately, it isn't too hard to earn the different equipment to decorate your horse with. Aside from the Towing Harness, horse equipment doesn't do much, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy dressing your horse up a bit.

6 Stable Bridle And Saddle

This is your basic saddle and bridle. As soon as you register your horse or pull one out from your Breath of the Wild save, they will be equipped with the standard Stable Bridle and Stable Saddle. There's nothing inherently wrong with either of these items as they work fine and get the job done, but they're just not fun.

There's no flair or sense of style to them, and you don't even get any pouches so you can pretend Link's excess storage is just another saddlebag. Sure, you may not care for flair and style, but doesn't your horse deserve to be dressed up a little bit? The basics are fine, but there are much better options waiting for you.

5 Towing Harness

The Towing Harness isn't for everyday riding around Hyrule. It is the only utility gear that you can get for your horse, and while it might seem useless at first, there are a few situations where it comes in handy. If you're riding around and doing the Stable Trotter side quests to unlock the Great Fairies, you'll need to use the Towing Harness more than once.

Or, if you're trying to collect logs to help Bolson repair Lurelin Village, then having your horse hooked up to a cart makes the job quick and painless. However, you pretty much have to immediately switch your horse out of it if you're going to ride around Hyrule because otherwise, it drags behind you and slows your horse down.

4 Traveler's Bridle and Saddle

The Traveler's Bridle and Saddle is for the true adventurer. This set isn't nearly as bold and gaudy as the Extravagant Bridle set, which means your horse is less likely to attract attention (not mechanically, but imaginatively), and it's utility based. It's simple, like the Stable Bridle and Saddle, but the difference is that it feels more comfortable.

Your horse is adorned with saddle bags to pack your extra things (at least, in your head, it can), and the saddle pad looks more comfortable and less itchy. Your horse probably won't mind, but can you imagine riding for long periods of time with your legs rubbing up against an itchy material constantly?

No thanks, the comfy saddle pad is better. Plus, with this equipment, you can pretend that Link has everything he needs to set out on long adventures across Hyrule.

3 Royal Bridle And Saddle

With the Royal Bridle and Saddle, you can begin to dip your toes into the exuberance of horse gear. Some of you may recognize this set from the Breath of the Wild, though you'll have to complete Zelda's Golden Horse side quest to get it. Its elegance is subtle, but it is undeniably beautiful and worth completing the quest for, even if you don't use the Golden Horse.

Any horse you do equip this Royal Bridle and Saddle with will proudly wear the crest of Hyrule, denoting its status as a royal horse, though it will only be ridden by Link. Even if your horse isn't as royal as the Golden Horse or the descendent of Zelda's white horse from Breath of the Wild, they still deserve to be treated like it. After all, they will always come when you call (as long as they're in earshot, that is).

2 Extravagant Bridle And Saddle

The Extravagant Bridle and Saddle are almost too much, bordering on camp. It's lavish and eye-catching, covering your horse in bright colors and decorations of all kinds. No matter what horse you adorn the Extravagant set of equipment on, you'll always know where they are.

These horses own the room and the stable they're in because the sheer presence of the Extravagant Bridle and Saddle equipment is almost overwhelming. Even if you didn't have the map icon to find your horse, the Extravagant Bridle and Saddle are so noticeable there's no way you could ever lose your horse again.

To get your hands on it, you need 26 Pony Points, which are easily gained by just spam sleeping at the closest stable until you can claim your glorious prize. The only downside to this set of equipment is that you can't possibly imagine that it would be practical for the traveler. But hey, sometimes your horse deserves to dress up a little bit (or a lot).

1 Knight's Bridle And Saddle

Now this is the gear for a true warrior and their horse. The Knight's Bridle and Saddle will protect your horse from all sorts of damage, or at least; it theoretically will. You probably shouldn't charge right into battle with your horse anyway, regardless of if you're wearing the Knight's Bridle and Saddle unless you want to pay the Horse God a visit.

This armor is fitting for Link's horse, though. As the hero of Hyrule and with a noble steed by his side, surely both could easily be considered Hyrule's Knights in Shining Armor, no? The only downside of this armor is that you can't see your mane decorations very well.

If you want your horse to be a knight in shining armor, you'll need 23 Pony Points. No matter what path you take, it will surely be valiant, and you'll walk away an honorable knight with an honorable knight's horse.
