Just like the shrines of the previous game, the shrines in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom force you to make use of your entire repertoire of abilities, and in this game, they're a bit more complex than a few bombs.

Makasura Shrine is one of those shrines, and there are a few ways to complete it. You'll need to know how momentum works, what to expect of the Zonai devices you encounter within, and how to react to suddenly being flung across great chasms. Oh, and it'll help if you have a few Arrows before heading in.

How To Complete Makasura Shrine: An Upright Device

Tears of the Kingdom - Masakura Shrine - Using Ascend

This shrine puzzle will have you using a varied mix of your abilities. Firstly, you need to ascend the very tall wall in front of you. To do this, simply use Ascend while underneath the overhanging ledge with gaps in it.

Now that you're up here, you'll be introduced to a Zonai device that forces itself upright when activated. You have one on its own (to experiment with) and one attached to a metal wall with a ledge on top.

Strike the device attached to the wall, and it will launch itself upright. You can now climb the wall, stand on the ledge, and use the height you've gained to glide on over to the next section of the puzzle.

Here, you're confronted with another wall attached to an uprighting device, along with a slot for a ball. The ball you need is behind some bars that you cannot bypass with Ultrahand.

Use Ultrahand to grab the wall and use the ledge to hang it on top of the barred wall. Then, you'll want to set up a series of events that you'll take advantage of with Recall, since it is impossible for Link to jump high enough to climb the wall in this position.

  1. Make sure the device is activated so it always remains in an upright position.
  2. Use Ultrahand to move the wall back onto the ground.
  3. Use Recall to prime a reversal of the previous step.
  4. Climb onto the wall before it gets out of your reach.

You should be able to ride the wall back to the bars and then climb up and over.

On the other side of the bars, pick up the ball and place it into the bowl attached to the wall here. Also, attach the Zonai device here to the edge of the wall nearest the bars.

Stand at the furthest edge of the wall, inside the bowl, and shoot an arrow at the device. It will upright itself, flinging you and the ball into the main area.

Place the ball inside the slot to open a gate to the other part of the puzzle. You'll gain access to another wall with a bowl on it.

Now, at the edge of this area, closest to the end of the shrine, build the following structure with the three objects you have available to you:

  • On the ground, place the wall with the Zonai device attached to it on the ground. The Zonai device should be on the side closest to the shrine's exit, and the ledge should be pointing upwards.
  • Place the wall with a bowl on top of the previous wall. Place it so that the centre is roughly on top of the ledge pointing upwards/

This will make a very tall tower when the Zonai is activated.

Get into the bowl and activate the Zonai with an arrow. When it uprights itself, it should fling you towards the shrine's exit.

You'll get a Light of Blessing for completing this shrine.
