Tears of the Kingdom adds a whole new dimension to Hyrule when compared to its predecessor. It has an amazing sense of verticality that informs much of the world's design and how you interact with the environment. Part of this is in the sky islands and how you can use them to easily reach new areas on the ground.

This requires a great deal of skydiving, and naturally, there are pieces of equipment that aid with this. One such piece is the Glide Shirt, which is obtained as a reward for completing a certain challenge up in the clouds.

How To Reach The Test Of Courage

Tears of the Kingdom - test of Courage - Courage island

The beginning of the Test of Courage is situated on a sky island above Hyrule Ridge. To reach it, you'll need to travel to Lindor's Brow Skyview Tower and activate it.

Lindor's Brow Skyview Tower doesn't have any tricky activation requirements, it's just a bit tricky to reach. Its coordinates are as follows: -1909, 1245, 0297.

Once activated, get launched into the air. You'll be able to glide to the sky island that holds the Test of Courage from here. Open the map, and you'll be able to see a group of sky islands clustered together called Courage Island. This is your destination.

Activate the Zonai Pedestal here, and you'll be able to take on the Test of Courage by jumping through the rings of light at the top of the stairs. Dive down to the island at the bottom, landing in the water.

Tears of the Kingdom - test of Courage - Shrine appearing

After reaching the bottommost island, if you managed to dive through all of the green rings, a nearby shrine will unlock. This is Taunhiy Shrine and contains a short archery tutorial inside. It's worth at least activating the shrine to obtain the fast travel point.

How To Get The Glide Shirt

Tears of the Kingdom - test of Courage - Timed dive

There will be a Zonai Construct on this island - talk to them, and they will explain the Test of Courage to you. By giving them one Zonai Charge, you can attempt the Test of Courage - which is simply diving from the top island down to the bottom island while going through every green ring within 35 seconds.

This is a very lenient time limit - just make liberal use of the dive mechanic when you're directly above a ring to accelerate.

Every attempt at the test costs one Zonai Charge, and you are automatically transported to the top island with each attempt.

The first time you complete the Test of Courage after handing the Construct a Zonai Charge, you'll be awarded the Glide Shirt. This is a handy armour piece that improves your midair manoeuvrability.

You will then be challenged to break the time record for the test.

How To Break The Test Of Courage Record

The current record for the Test of Courage is 20 seconds, and beating it requires a very precise strategy. Before anything else, make sure you equip the Glide Shirt before trying to break the record.

Here are some tips for beating the record:

  • At the beginning, dash forward before pressing the Jump button.
  • You'll need to use your Paraglider at least one time for positioning - try to have it open for as little time as possible, as it slows you down considerably.
  • Always be accelerating with the R button unless you need to drastically reposition yourself.
  • The rings are quite generous with what counts as 'through' them - as long as you're hitting the rim, you're fine.

It may take some practice (and each attempt still costs a Zonai Charge), but beating the record is certainly within reach. However, the only reward you get for completing the challenge is a Large Zonai Charge. Depending on how many Zonai Charges you use trying to beat the record, this may be a net loss in energy.
