One of the main activities to do in Tears of the Kingdom is hunting down all the shrines that have popped up all over - and above - Hyrule. Not only is this how you obtain the means to increase your health and stamina, but you can pick up some neat equipment and have fun testing your knowledge of the game's mechanics.

Completing some of these shrines is more involved than completing others, requiring an extended questing effort before you even get inside the shrine itself - Taninoud Shrine is one such shrine, and you'll need to complete the East Hebra Sky Crystal quest to enter it.

How To Start The Shrine Quest

Tears of the Kingdom - Pikida Stonegrove Skyview Tower

To begin this quest, you'll first need to head to the shrine's whereabouts. The shrine is located in the sky, on a sky island in the East Hebra Sky Archipelago.

To reach this island, you'll need to launch up into the sky from the Pikida Stonegrove Skyview Tower. The tower's coordinates are as follows: -2311, 3063,2, 0443. There aren't any special requirements to get inside this Skyview Tower, you just need to survive the wintery cold.

For an easy visual cue, simply look north after launching from Lindor's Brow Skyview Tower, which is to the northwest of Central Hyrule.

Tears of the Kingdom - East Hebra Sky Crystal - The floating platform puzzle

Once you're up in the sky, you'll see the first sky island you need to land on to the east. Land here, and you'll see a chain of floating platforms - you need to use these to reach another sky island off to the east.

While it's easy to use Ultrahand to slowly make stepping stones over to the island, it's far quicker to use a Fan attached to one as a makeshift airship.

Eventually, you'll reach an island with what looks like the bottom of a shrine and a Device Dispenser on it. Attempt to activate the shrine, and you'll be given the East Hebra Sky Crystal quest.

How To Complete East Hebra Sky Crystal

Tears of the Kingdom - East Hebra Sky Crystal - The laser pointing to the crystal

The goal of this quest is to find a Sky Crystal, which is a very large green rock, and bring it to the shrine. A laser will shoot from the shrine directly at the laser, giving you a clue as to where you need to go.

Before trying to follow the laser, consider playing the Device Dispenser opposite the shrine - it has Wings, Sleds, Fans, Carts, and Lights. Fans are the important ones you might need for this quest.

Tears of the Kingdom - East Hebra Sky Crystal - The launcher in the middle of the sky island

The best way to get to the island that contains the crystal is by using the launching apparatus in the centre of the sky island you're currently on. Use the capstan (the turnable object with multiple bars sticking out of it) nearby to change the angle of the launcher, and aim it toward the island to the east.

Stand on the launcher, and it'll punt you on top of the island. While you're on the top, check out the tree trunks - there's a flower in one. Touch it, and then follow the trail of flowers that appears and leads to the other tree trunk for a Korok.

Tears of the Kingdom - East Hebra Sky Crystal - Floating down to the middle of the island

There is an arch on the east side of the island. Leap off the island near it and then turn your camera around to look back at the island's side - you'll spy a wall of branches in the middle of the island with a ledge you can land on. Head here.

Break the branches and head inside. Here, you have the Sky Crystal, a bunch of Zonai devices, and a floating platform. Your task is to turn the floating platform into a flying ship that you can use to transport the Sky Crystal to the shrine.

Tears of the Kingdom - East Hebra Sky Crystal - Constructing a makeshift airship

Follow these steps:

  1. Attach the Sky Crystal to the floating platform, near the centre but not directly in the centre.
  2. Find the Lever and place that in the centre of the floating platform.
  3. Find the two Fans and two Batteries. Attach a Battery to each Fan.
  4. Place a Fan on either side of the floating platform, keeping their placement symmetrical so you don't upset the platform's balance. The platform should look like the one in the picture above this list.

With that done, use Ultrahand to move the floating platform outside the branches - there's a good chance it will get caught on the branches if you try to drive it from inside.

Tears of the Kingdom - East Hebra Sky Crystal - Flying the makeshift air ship

Get on the platform and use the Lever - this will activate the fans. You can use Levers to control the direction of a vehicle - use this to fly the platform around the island and toward the shrine. Don't worry if you run out of battery charge; the platform will remain floating and will even keep moving forward thanks to momentum while you recharge.

Tears of the Kingdom - East Hebra Sky Crystal - bringing the sky crystal to the shrine

Once you're close enough to the shrine, use Ultrahand to place the Sky Crystal near it, get off the floating platform, and take the Sky Crystal to the shrine's 'entrance'.

Your reward for this is access to Taninoud Shrine.
