After cleansing the Korok Forest of Gloom in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, several of the Koroks living in the forest will have quests for you to complete. One such Korok is Kula, who says that his friends saw a “big swirly thing” in the water.

However, Kula can’t leave the Korok Forest by himself, which means he can’t go and see what they’re talking about. Still, he’d like to see a picture of it. As Link has a camera in his inventory, it’s up to you to find the whirly swirly thing and take a photo of it for Kula.

How To Start The Whirly Swirly Things Quest

Once you’ve purified Korok Forest of the Gloom, head to the Musanokir Shrine, found to the left of the Master Sword Pedestal and south of the Great Deku Tree.

Directly left from exiting the shrine, you’ll see a Korok named Kula. Speak with him to initiate the Whirly Swirly Things quest.

He’ll tell you that his Korok friends have seen a “big swirly circle” in the water, and he’d like to see it too, but he can’t leave the forest.

You’ll need to take a photo of the whirly swirly thing and bring it back to Kula.

Where To Find The Whirly Swirly Thing

The “whirly swirly thing” that Kula wants to see is a whirlpool. There are a few scattered across Hyrule, but the easiest one to find is in Lake Hylia, which is directly south of Hyrule Field.

You can also find one in East Reservoir Lake in Zora’s Domain if you’ve completed the Sidon of the Zora main quest.

The whirlpool is on the right-hand side of the lake. It’s large, so you won’t be able to miss it.

To take a picture of it, you’ll want to approach from the Popla Foothills Skyview Tower and paraglide over to the hills to the right of the lake.

If you head there directly over the Bridge of Hylia, you’ll encounter a Fire Gleeok.

Unless you want to fight an incredibly hard boss right now, take the route from the Tower.

Bring out your camera and take a photo of the whirlpool. There will be a red exclamation point (!) on the image to confirm that it’s registered for the quest.

Once you’ve taken your photo, head back to Kula in Korok Forest. Speak to him to show him the picture.

He’ll tell you that his friends have also seen these whirly circles in sand, and wants to see a photo of that too.

Where To Find The Big Swirly Sand Circle

There’s only one place in Hyrule with lots of sand — Gerudo Desert.

You can find “swirly sand” (a quicksand sinkhole) in multiple places in the desert, but the easiest to locate is in the center of the East Gerudo Ruins.

You’ll need to have completed the Riju of Gerudo Town main quest to complete this part of the quest.

Otherwise, the desert will be obscured by the sand shroud, and you won’t be able to see any sinkholes.

Head to the Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower and go south. The ruins are just northwest of the East Gerudo Chasm.

Walk towards the middle of the ruins, and you’ll notice the sand dunes start to descend. You’ll see the swirling sand ahead of you.

Just like before, take a picture and bring it back to Kula in Korok Forest.

After you show Kula the picture, he’ll give you five Endura Carrots and you’ll have completed the quest.
