One of the beautiful things about open-world games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is that once you've completed the initial tutorial sequence, you can basically go wherever you like, taking on the game's challenges in any order you wish.

Of course, this doesn't mean it's necessarily a good idea - some parts of Hyrule are obviously meant for players with a few more resources under their belts. Of course, it is still possible to head directly to the very end of the game as soon as you've grabbed your paraglider.

What You'll Need

The trip to the final fight is very dangerous, but the only hard and fast requirement is the Paraglider, which you'll get by following the first quests given to you when you leave the Great Sky Islands.

There are some things that would make things far easier, though:

  • Extra Heart Containers and Stamina Segments, which are obtained by completing shrines and trading Blessings of Light at a Goddess Statue.
  • Lots of food for healing. Preferably, you'll have meals made with Sundelions to heal gloom damage.
  • Some Zonai Fans, which are useful for gaining lift.

How To Reach Ganondorf

Tears of the Kingdom - Hyrule Castle Chasm

Reaching Ganondorf is a long process, and if you're doing it without the best equipment, you'll need to be prepared to run from and avoid many enemies.

Tears of the Kingdom - Lightroot under Hyrule Castle

We begin this journey by diving into the chasm beneath Hyrule Castle. Halfway down, you should see a light - glide to it. It's a Lightroot, which serves as a fast-travel point in the depths. Stand underneath it to activate it.

Tears of the Kingdom - Gloom's Approach

From the Lightroot, glide down the rest of the chasm. You'll reach an area called Gloom Approach at the bottom - land here and look around to find a Shock Like.

Head toward the Shock Like to find the way forward - dive through the hole underneath the enemy and make your way through the next room quickly, avoiding the gloom and taking the clean path forward. There will be some Horriblins here; avoid them as best as you can - they have very long weapons, though, which makes things tricky.

If you're very quick, you can take out, place, and activate a Zonai Fan up against the wall you have to climb up and use the updraft to skip much of the climbing.

In the next room, you'll be confronted by a handful of Electric Keese. If they shock you, you might drop your equipped weapon and shield - be sure to pick them up. They'll die from a single arrow, so shoot away.

Tears of the Kingdom - Under Hyrule Castle - Hiding from the Lynel

Do not drop into the next room - there is a gloomified Lynel waiting to kill you. Getting noticed by the Lynel is very bad news, as it can rain gloom arrows down on you from above.

Tears of the Kingdom - Under Hyrule Castle - Climbing in the Lynel's arena

Instead, look over to the left to see the way forward. Glide over there and climb up to the path forward as best as you can.

Once you've reached the way forward, step on the stone block ahead of you, and you'll fall into the next room. The way forward is lit with a lamp - enter this adjoining room and look to your right to see another stone cube like that one you just rode down on.

Climb on top of the cube and use Recall to ride it up to the top of the room. Follow the path forward through a tunnel filled with rock until you come to a sequence filled with Ice Likes and Ice Keese.

This is the second place where having a Fan is very useful. Use it to get a good updraft on before heading forward and glide through the pack of monsters. Alternatively, if you're still healthy, you can quite easily run through the monsters over the gloomy floor.

Tears of the Kingdom - Under Hyrule Castle - Large pit of monsters

Dive down to the center of the next vertical room, and press on.

If you have summons, this is where they will stop working.

Tears of the Kingdom - Under Hyrule Castle - Climbing up the broken bridge

The next room will have you falling to the ground thanks to a broken stone slab. Glide over to the other side, toward the broken bridge, as quickly as possible - a horde of Gloom Hands will spawn when you reach the bottom of this room.

Climb up the side of the bridge and press on, ignoring the monster here. Ignore the breakable wall here and turn left to continue - this will bring you to the Forgotten Foundation area, which is where you began the game.

This is a linear sequence that has you up against some of the game's strongest enemies, including gloom-ridden Gibdos.

The room behind the rocks in the Gibdo room is the final room, and where you'll encounter the final sequence of the game. Proceed into this room to confront Ganondorf.
