Regional Phenomena is one of the first main quests you'll receive in the game and follows Link's quest to uncover what's going on throughout the four corners of Hyrule. The rewards for completing this quest are great, and it forms the main reason for exploration in the game.

How To Complete Regional Phenomena

Legend of Zelda, Tears of the Kingdom, Tulin spreads his wings with title card below.

Regional Phenomena starts after you complete the opening tutorial at Lookout Landing and grab your Paraglider. Purah tasks you with investigating four specific regions and the mysterious disasters that have befallen them.

This basically equates to four separate multi-stage quests, one for each region. The table below details each quest, where they are located, and has a link to our guides.

Region

Phenomena

Quest

Hebra

An eternal blizzard

Tulin of Rito Village

Akkala

Hypnotic marbled rock roast

Yunobo of Goron City

Lanayru

Sludge falling from the sky

Sidon of the Zora

Gerudo

Eternal sand shroud

Riju of Gerudo Town

Each of these quests involves the same general quest structure:

  • You will head to the settlement that is experiencing the issue. Oftentimes this will involve dealing with harsh environments, such as hot or cold weather.
  • You will meet a character who joins you on your journey in this region, offering their support in battle and having a special ability that helps you interact with the environment.
  • You will undertake a long journey toward a temple in the area. These temples serve as the game's version of 'dungeons' and contain multiple puzzles, often requiring the use of your companion's ability.
  • You will fight a boss at the end of the temple.

After completing each quest, you are rewarded with two things. First, your new companion becomes a Sage and will give you the ability to summon them. Summoning them allows you to use their abilities, and they'll help out in combat.

These summons are permanent and can be deactivated in the Key Items menu. You can have every summon activated at the same time.

Secondly, you'll get a Heart Container after beating the temples' respective bosses. You have to pick these up manually, the game does not grant them to you automatically.

After completing all four of the quests listed in the table above, return to Lookout Landing and talk to Purah to tell her what you've learned. She will be on top of the lab, near the large telescope. This will complete the quest and automatically begin the next one: Crisis at Hyrule Castle.
