The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has plenty of essential items that make up Link’s repertoire, and the Paraglider might be the most important. While a nice royal ghost gives it to us in Breath of the Wild, the steps required to earn it in the sequel require more work on our part.

So much so that certain Tears of the Kingdom players could miss its location altogether if they gallivant off in the opposite direction after leaving behind the Great Sky Island. Here's everything you need to know about how to unlock the Paraglider for Link.

Updated May 14, 2023: We've updated this article to add more information about how to unlock and use the Paraglider in Tears of the Kingdom.

Where To Unlock The Paraglider Quest

Tears of the Kingdom Paraglider Guide

Immediately after landing in Hyrule, you’ll want to follow the quest marker already placed on your map until you stumble on Lookout Landing in Hyrule Field. This will become a hub in the game’s early hours when you can take on quests and speak with familiar characters.

The journey there is short and not especially treacherous, but prepare to beat up a Bokoblin or two if necessary.

Before entering the location, you’ll be greeted by two guards shocked to see you alive. They’ll point you toward a large facility at the other end of town where an older version of Purah is busy performing experiments. Head there without delay.

Speak With Purah And Josha

After approaching the lab, you will find research assistant Josha peeking into a nearby window - who you will speak to later on to earn the Camera for your Purah Pad - chat with her and a cutscene will begin where Purah is introduced.

After introductions are over and Link gives Purah the skinny on Zelda’s disappearance and his funky new arm, she will task you with heading to Hyrule Castle to speak with a search party currently on the lookout for Zelda.

Once the marker appears on the map, get your booty moving to the lower grounds.

Meet Hoz In Hyrule Castle

Fortunately for Link, Hoz, the fellow he needs to meet isn’t in Hyrule Castle proper, but in a small barracks of sorts located directly beneath it. Jump over the wooden balcony where Purah and Josha are located and start heading directly towards the castle, passing by the crumbling fountain and stone wall gate on your way.

Once over the gate, keep on following the road as it leads up the hill and to the left. You will soon arrive at the entrance, which is handily made clear by an NPC staring impatiently up at the ceiling.

Some worthwhile loot can be found in the building itself, but otherwise you can climb right up and find Hoz as he stares down at the Hyrule Castle Chasm. Interact with him to move the quest forward and view a cutscene.

Once this wraps up, head on back to Purah at Lookout Landing.

Activate The Skyview Tower And Unlock Your Paraglider

Speaking to Purah after meeting with Hoz will initiate a new task to activate the Skyview Tower sitting a few feet away. These are Tears of the Kingdom’s equivalent to a Sheikah Tower but can shoot you much further into the air in order to reach other locales.

Purah suggests that you rest up in the underground shelter and grab some supplies before you meet her by the tower, but what order you do things in here doesn’t actually matter.

Waltz over there for a chat, and after a gorgeous cutscene that ignites all of Hyrule’s towers, you’ll be rewarded with a shiny new paraglider. Activate the tower, and you’ll be using it right away.

The paraglider is essential to exploration in Tears of the Kingdom, so we’d recommend doing this quest immediately after you land on the surface to avoid any trouble.

How To Customise Your Paraglider

Unlike Breath of the Wild, fashion and customisation are a far bigger deal in the sequel. The Kochi Dye Shop in Hateno Village is able to customise your paraglider as long as you bring along the right fabric and 20 rupees.

However, you will need to have a specific fabric in your possession to customise the paraglider, given it changes the design instead of certain clothes like you’d find with standard equipment. These can be found as treasures throughout the world or also by scanning certain Zelda amiibo into your game.
