One of the most exciting additions to Link's repertoire of abilities in Tears of the Kingdom is Fuse, which allows him to attach items to his weapon or shield to enhance them. These objects improve stats, add elemental or status affliction effects, or add completely new properties at times. The range of objects you can add is vast. From rocks to fruit, there is a staggering variety of potential equipment aids in this game, and that's before you get into the effects of combining your equipment with Zonai devices! Of course, you'll have to complete a shrine to acquire the ability.
How To Complete In-isa Shrine: The Ability To Combine
When you enter In-isa shrine, you'll be confronted with a short cutscene in which you obtain the Fuse ability, just like in the previous shrine where you obtained Ultrahand. As before, this shrine serves as a tutorial to your new ability.Ahead of you are two items - a Rusty Claymore and a large rock. Pick up and equip the weapon, and then use your fancy new ability (using the L button) to Fuse the rock to it. You'll have created a Boulder Hammer, which has the ability to break fragile rocks.Use this weapon to destroy the cracked rock panels ahead of you. Press on.
Attaching rocks to weapons is something you should get used to - it's a very simple and effective way to destroy common obstacles and mine for ore.
In the next room, you'll have the option to turn right or go straight on. Turn right for now, and you'll be in a room filled with Fire Fruit, a Wooden Bow, and some Arrows. Pick everything up and learn how to use Fuse with arrows.Hold ZR to aim your bow, then hold the Up button to open the Fuse menu. Releasing the Up button will Fuse the currently-selected item to your current arrow.Use a Fire Fruit to create a fiery arrow, and fire this at the dry leaves on the wall in front of you. Open the chest that falls down.
Fire Fruits are always useful, so it's easy to run out. If you find yourself running low, you can always come back to this shrine to pick some more up - the small Fire Fruit trees will regrow over time.
Head back to the previous room and take the path ahead now. Eventually, you'll reach a ladder - once you climb it, you'll be put into combat with a Captain Construct I. This serves as a tutorial on how effective weapons are when fused and how to use them in battle.You have a few options to take this enemy down:
- There are some wooden weapons and Spikes on the platform to the left. The Wooden Spear combined with Spikes has a good attack score.
- There are more Fire Fruit on the platform to the right. You can use fire arrows to light the dry leaves on fire, which will damage the Construct if it walks into them.
- You could just use the Boulder Hammer you created earlier.
After beating Captain Construct, use a Boulder Hammer (or another rock-fused weapon) to break the blocks ahead of you to reach the end of the shrine.
