We've all had that nightmare where you walk downstairs in the middle of the night to grab a snack, but you first have to defeat your fridge in hand-to-hand combat before you can do so. Just me? Well, not anymore as Capcom confirmed all of you, at least those of you who will be buying Street Fighter 6, will be able to fight a fridge later this year, briefly showing a clip during its showcase where the character stumbles upon two of the household appliances prime for a scrap.

With only a couple of months to go until Street Fighter 6 is finally here, slotted neatly into what is shaping up to be the busiest video game summer of all time, Capcom had an awful lot to show off on Thursday evening. A demo for the highly anticipated fighting game is available now on PlayStation, and the studio has even outlined some of the characters being added via DLC. Kotaku handily highlighted what might have been the best moment of all, though. Those aforementioned fighting fridges.

The fighter comes face-to-face with the fridge and seems to be immediately thwarted by the various food items being thrown their way. Seriously, as you can see below, the fridges really have the upper hand(le). The one bringing up the rear isn't helping much, but I'm assuming once the front fridge has been defeated, it will be fridge two's time to shine. The battle gives off the same vibes as when players were faced with beating up a car in Street Fighter 2, except this time, the inanimate objects fight back.

Fighting fridges isn't the only way Street Fighter 6 will differ massively from the installment to have come before it. While Capcom could have probably played it safe for the rest of Street Fighter's run, regardless of how many more games it makes, and done okay, it has seriously turned the format on its head for this next title. An open world to explore and what appears to be a very in-depth character creator, this is going to be a very different Street Fighter game from anything that has come before.

As noted above, we're about to experience one hell of a summer when it comes to big games launching in quick succession. Street Fighter 6 will be joined by Jedi: Survivor, Tears of the Kingdom, and Final Fantasy 16. You know, just to name a few groundbreaking games it probably has nothing to worry about. It could also be a huge year for fighting games as even though their release dates are TBD, Mortal Kombat and Tekken may well have new numbered games in their respective series on the market by the end of 2023.
