Capcom seemingly doesn't understand what footsies are, as its description for them in the Street Fighter 6 demo is completely incorrect and being memed by fighting game fans.

Ever since Street Fighter 6's initial reveal (well, the proper one, not the weird logo bulge-fest), it's seemed like Capcom can do no wrong. Everything has been positively received so far and it looks like the whole fighting game community is back on board in a way that it simply wasn't for Street Fighter 5. As it turns out, though, Street Fighter 6 isn't invulnerable, and Capcom has made at least one mistake.

As pointed out by Twitter user nchJoJo, the tutorial featured in the Street Fighter 6 demo tries to explain what footsies are, but does so in a way that mixes them up for crouching kick attacks and sweeps. This is a little strange considering that Street Fighter is one of the fighting games that's most synonymous with footsies, and the fact that it's a pretty generally understood term to even casual fighting game fans. How Capcom of all studios got it wrong is a little funny.

Capcom's description in Street Fighter 6 reads, "Crouching kick attacks used to strike at your opponent's feet are known as footsies. Footsies are low attacks, which means they can't be blocked standing". According to nchJoJo, the Japanese version of Street Fighter 6 refers to term as "ashibarai", meaning foot sweep, so it appears to just be a localisation issue.

I probably don't need to explain this but footsies are when you and your opponent try to take control of the space between you by poking one another with safe and long-reaching attacks, which aren't just limited to crouching kicks. You use these moves to try and bait one another into making a mistake so you can deal some serious damage. It absolutely isn't sweeping attacks or crouching kicks like the Street Fighter 6 demo is telling people.

While a decent amount of the fighting game community is simply memeing the description by sharing images of low attacks and incorrectly calling it footsies, others are taking it more seriously and are calling for Capcom to change the description in either the demo or for the game's full release.

It might just be more of a funny meme to experienced fighting game players who know what footsies actually are, but new players are going to end up confused if they believe Capcom and treat footsies like low attacks and sweeps, which is especially problematic when Street Fighter 6 is aiming to get in as many players as possible with its modern control scheme options and commentary.
