There’s a BioWare bundle on Steam right now that’s way too good to pass up. As part of the EA Publisher Sale, you can pick up the BioWare Mega Collection, which includes every Dragon Age and Mass Effect game for 90 percent off their normal price. That’s Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition, Dragon Age 2: Ultimate Edition, Dragon Age Inquisition, Mass Effect Legendary Edition, and Mass Effect Andromeda Deluxe Edition for just $19.73. That’s $190 worth of BioWare classics (and Mass Effect Andromeda) for the price of a decent lunch. These six games (and Mass Effect Andromeda) are considered to be among the best RPGs ever made, and if you don’t have any of them you would be a fool not to pick this bundle up.

There is one catch, unfortunately. When I said it’s a great deal if you don’t have any of them, I meant that this deal only applies to you if you don’t already own any of them. If you played the Mass Effect Legendary Edition when it launched a couple of years ago, or if you picked up Dragon Age: Origins in a previous sale, you’re only going to be allowed to purchase this bundle as a gift. And no, you can’t gift the bundle to someone that already owns any of these games.

This isn’t a limitation of Steam’s store. Typically for sales like this, Steam gives you the option to “complete the bundle”, meaning you can pay a reduced price and only buy the games you don’t have. For some reason, the BioWare Mega Collection can’t be broken up that way. Either you buy all of the games or none of them.

This wouldn’t be a big deal if Steam let you rebuy games. If you already owned Dragon Age: Origins you would still save $160 on the normal price with this bundle, and $7.49 if you bought them all individually during the sale. You should be able to buy the bundle and gift the ones you already own to your friends, but you can’t. You can buy them individually of course, and they’re all on sale, but the discount isn’t as good as it is in the bundle. If Mass Effect Legendary Edition is the only one you currently own, you’re only going to be overcharged $6 to pick up the rest of them individually, but that’s still $6 you’d be spending for nothing.

I do like the idea of a ‘new fan’ bundle targeted towards people that never never played any of the games in a series, but the way this bundle works disadvantages people that have already spent money on BioWare’s games in the past. It’s like when your cell phone company offers a great new plan or a discount on a new phone, but only for new contracts. It makes all of the current customers feel like they aren’t valuable, and this kind of restrictive bundle has the same effect.

Luckily, there’s deep discounts on the individual games too - just not as deep as what the bundle offers. If you only need to pick up a couple of these games to complete your BioWare collection, you’ll still save a ton of money on this sale. If you just follow the link to the bundle page, however, it isn’t completely clear that you can even buy them individually, but you can. Leave it to EA to take a fantastic deal and muck it up with confusing conditions. BioWare’s Jade Empire is also on sale for $1.50, though it's not part of this bundle. The Knights of the Old Republic games, strangely, are not on sale.

BioWare isn’t the only studio with great offerings in this sale. You can also pick up Titanfall 2 for $3 if you somehow still haven’t played it, as well as both Mirror’s Edge games for $2 each. There’s a EA Classics Mega Collection that includes Dragon Age: Origins, Spore, Dead Space, Mirror’s Edge, Alice: Madness Returns, and Sim City 4 for just $20 - and wouldn’t you know it, it’s a “complete your collection” bundle too. I’m going to go play Mass Effect now before this whole thing makes me lose my mind.
