Mortal Kombat 1 is a huge success already. The announcement trailer has garnered 4.6 million views while it's the most pre-ordered game on PS5 right now. The hype is palpable, and it's spilling over to MK11 which has just hit a Steam player peak nearly rivalling that of its launch.

As highlighted by fakayuburiza on the Mortal Kombat subreddit, the concurrent player peak right now is 10,159, with 9,992 players in-game at the time of writing. That's incredibly impressive considering that the month after its launch in June 2019, it had a concurrent player peak of 5,735. As for this month, it has seen a growth of 47.96 percent, with its peak shooting up from last month's 2,584.

While we only have a few months to go before MK1's launch in September, MK11 is selling for £3.99 right on Steam. It's no wonder that so many are picking it up out of curiosity to see what all the fuss is, and it's no surprise that old players are returning as they itch for more Mortal Kombat. I know I've got it redownloaded and ready to go.

Even the Aftermath DLC and launch of MK11 Ultimate didn't see the concurrent player peak reach numbers that high. However, it still has yet to dethrone that first month which saw a player peak of 18,000. However, it's not far off - maybe it'll keep climbing and reach a similar peak when the weekend comes. At any rate, MK1 is clearly on track to be a big hit for NetherRealm, and all of the many who have pre-ordered will get access to a beta in August, so you'll be out of the MK11 towers and online scene soon enough. Only three months to go.

MK1 will require a whopping 100GB of storage space when it does launch, so there's plenty of time to clear out your old games and make space. If you're one of the thousands flocking back to MK11, you'll probably want to delete it when September comes as well, especially considering the number of guest characters already leaked, and the fact that support will be longer than any other NetherRealm game. That 100GB is going to balloon to even higher numbers.

So far, Peacemaker, Homelander, and Omni-Man have leaked as guest characters, while Megan Fox and Travis Scott will apparently be making an appearance in some shape or form. They'll probably be skins like Jean-Claude Van Damme.
