Most non-Steam games aren't compatible with Linux, but there are ways around this. What about Epic Games and other launchers?

<![CDATA[The Best Way To Find A New Game Is To Look]]> I’m in an incredibly privileged position, I know that. Sure, I was born in a country that speaks English, I have two parents who love me, I’m white, all that usual stuff. But also, I’m a games journalist. Video games are one of the most expensive pieces of media to buy regularly, and publishers email me every day with free games. Some big, some small, some medium sized. Good, bad, indie, triple-A, VR, RPG, FPS, TRPG, JRPG, CRPG, ARPG, all the letters. So I’m well placed to say to you - go find a game.

<![CDATA[My Love Of Lord Of The Rings Has Got Me Learning MTG, Dammit]]> Magic: The Gathering has always been a mystery to me. I knew the word ‘planeswalker’ and that cards could fetch exorbitant prices even before the Logan Paul-infused Pokemon TCG boom, and that was about it. A flatmate’s boyfriend once tried to teach me the rules of the game in university and it went over my head. I didn’t even really get the mana system, let alone all the colours. Perhaps it’s not that complicated, but I’m used to Pokemon, one of the simplest TCGs around.

<![CDATA[Sometimes The Grind Isn’t Worth It]]> I had grand plans this weekend. Strictly speaking, I had absolutely no plans, but that was the exciting part. There was no pile of washing to do, no lawn to mow, no annoying chores to eat into any spare minutes you get to yourself. What’s more, my fiance had made solo plans with our daughter, so I wouldn’t be reading the same two books over and over again. Don’t get me wrong, I love The Very Hungry Caterpillar as much as the next guy, but on your sixteenth read of the day it loses its charm a little.

To this day, there is no better documentary of how films are made and the work that goes into them from legions of people in every possible department. 26 hours of footage cover everything from props workers delicately slicing rubber hosing to make chainmail, to the actual forge used to make weapons, to the room-filling ‘bigatures’ of Minas Tirith and Isengard, to the cutting-edge CGI technology used to create the Balrog and other beasties too big for Weta’s incredible workshop.

Not wholly evil but definitely not nice, his fate is cruelly tied to that of the Ring, his dedication to which forces him from Mordor to mountain cave and back again. <![CDATA[Even The Apex Legends Board Game Has Microtransactions]]> How do you make a battle royale board game? The question gives me flashbacks to gigantic Warhammer 40,000 Apocalypse matches, with a dozen players leaning over a room-sized board littered with tiny miniatures. Whole swathes would be eliminated at a time, scooped up into the sorry hands of their owner and dropped into a giant case or tin ready for the journey home. Two-foot tall titans would devastate small armies in a single turn, before being focus-fired by hundreds of meltaguns and felled in return.

<![CDATA[Steam: The Best First-Person Shooter Video Games]]> In a market where there are a plethora of FPS games, it can be hard to keep up and choose which one you might want to play. It seems like a new game is released almost every week. Even with some of the popular games, being popular doesn’t always mean good.

Considering how much video games cost, you'd want to be as informed as possible before making a $70 purchase. <![CDATA[Tears Of The Kingdom Is Just Garry's Mod Meets BOTW And I Can't Wait]]> Garry’s Mod was a weird experiment. It took all of Valve’s library and smushed them together into one big sandbox, giving you a doohicky glue gun that can pick stuff up with a laser. If you really want to, you can make a car out of a bathtub, or a boat out of corpses. It’s absurd, but for some reason, it works. Yet, no game has ever tried anything similar until, weirdly enough, Tears of the Kingdom.

You’re clearly not as big a fan of TheGamer’s most northern Features Editor as I thought. But anyway, I thought Dragon Age: Origins was outstanding, and the sequel was better than I expected, albeit it didn’t quite match up to its predecessor. I’m simplifying a lot – I must have written dozens of features about the pair over the months it took me to play them – but that’s the gist. Now you’re caught up, and we can jump into the most modern release - Inquisition.

I failed to save Syanna Anna because I didn’t buy some overpriced ribbon from a drug-dealing child. I didn’t play enough Gwent, so my card collection is a little lacking. I was more than happy with my ending, but I’d like to see the others. This is a big game, and I’m sure I’ve forgotten more regrettable decisions than most people have made. I finished Geralt’s adventure (does that not sound like a side-scrolling GBA Witcher game, by the way?) with 78 hours of playtime, after eating up both courses of DLC and starting out deliberately attempting to not play it like a game, and finishing it by spending hours hunting ingredients in order to upgrade my armour.
