Marvel's Midnight Suns crams a lot into one game. First, the game successfully portrays various Marvel hero and villain backstories. Second, the game offers engaging action. Third, the game offers a unique comic-book-worthy plot of its own as well as countless easter eggs. On top of that, the game offers nuanced gameplay that will remind you of tabletop card games like Magic: The Gathering.

However, with all of this to cover, the game understandably leaves some things out or fails to explain other issues before the credits roll. The following questions are some things you might wonder long after you’ve beaten Midnight Suns.

Mephisto at the End of Midnight Suns

Doctor Doom is one of the most feared and best-known characters in the Marvel Universe. Surprisingly, a variety of other villains, including Mephisto, make appearances throughout Midnight Suns. Mephisto has a backstory with Magick and also makes several appearances in Ghost Rider Comics, where he scrapped with Johnny Blaze. After facing Doctor Doom in most of Midnight Suns, you might be left wondering why the game focuses on Mephisto, who has always been a secondary villain and comes off as somewhat underdeveloped in Midnight Suns. After all, the game could have focused on Doctor Doom or other legendary baddies.

The story about Mephisto feels rather lackluster. Doom and Mephisto agreed to battle on a yearly occasion for Cynthia’s soul. Mephisto also made a deal with Howard Stark (Tony's Dad) that would have led to Mephisto acquiring Tony Stark’s soul. Later, Mephisto made a similar deal with the Green Goblin about the soul of Harry (the Green Goblin's son). This storyline reads like something we've seen in many Marvel issues already.

8 Whose Voice Was It?

Chthon's Eyes in Midnight Suns

The series of "Emo Kids" missions in Midnight Suns leave players with a bunch of questions at the final meeting of the titular Emo Kids. The most pressing question is that you might be uncertain who the voice is at the end of the game.

The answer is this is Chthon's voice. Chthon is Lilith's dark master. During Midnight Suns' final mission, Chthon orders the services of several types of enemies, including Hydra Mystics. Lillith's quest throughout the game involves waking Chthon and restoring him to his former glory as an ancient God. Given the importance of Chthon in Lilith's motivation, you would think his voice at the end of the game would be better explained.

7 Who Was Picking Up The Book?

Dr Droom at the end of Midnight SUns

At the very end of Midnight Suns, you will notice an unidentified person picking up a book. Some players who are not especially acquainted with the Marvel Universe are unsure who this person is. Appreciating who these hands belong to is important, though, because it hints at a villain and some heroes we might see in a potential Midnight Suns sequel.

RELATED: Hidden Details In Marvel's Midnight Suns

The hand belongs to Doctor Doom, the arch-enemy of the Fantastic Four. Doctor Doom is one of the most fearsome villains in the Marvel universe and the king of a small Eastern European country called Latveria. Many Marvel comic storylines have occurred in Latveria, which has led some players to wonder whether the country will be the setting if there's a Midnight Suns follow-up.

6 What Will Happen To Nico?

Nico using her magical staff, slamming it into the ground

Nico Minoru slides her hand open on the staff when she is depicted in the comics and mixes her blood with magic. This detail is hidden in Midnight Suns. In the Runaways storyline, Nico comments that she needs to cut herself before she can summon the staff. She does this by dragging the staff out of her chest. From then on, none of her spells need blood.

Even after Midnight Suns has concluded, it remains uncertain how much blood Nico needs to cast spells. Will Nico continue to use the staff after the game's conclusion? Will she pick up a new weapon? The logistics of Nico's blood and the staff does not receive sufficient clarification anywhere in Midnight Suns.

5 What’s The Difference Between Nico’s Combat Recovery And The Cat?

Cat and Nico in Midnight Suns

Along with Doctor Strange, Nico was first seen in an announcement trailer for the game. Many players enjoy Nico as a playable character because she offers various spells, including a combat recovery spell that is quite powerful.

The problem is that there's some overlap between Nico's powers. Some players who have beat Midnight Suns have been left to wonder what the difference is between Nico’s Combat Recovery and her "cat," who also provides healing. The answer is that the cat only cures characters with minor injuries. The cat heals these minor injuries to the full extent, though.

4 Which Characters Are Held In the Final Fight?

Blade Held during the Final Fight in Midnight Suns

One of the biggest questions in the final battle in Midnight Suns is which characters are held captive. The game almost certainly determines who is held based on your character's relationship with them.

Many players have reported that the four people held captive are those heroes with the highest friendships with the Hunter. Additionally, Lilith's dialogue states that she is sacrificing your four closest allies, which conforms to this theory. As a result, if you conclude Midnight Suns wondering why certain characters were held captive, it all comes down to friendships created throughout the game.

3 Did Hunter Deserve Better?

Hunter in the Final Fight in Midnight Suns

At the end of Midnight Suns, LIlith accepts that Chthon can only be killed by destroying the Darkhold. Before this occurs, LIlith sends the Midnight Suns team, except for Hunter, to safety. Hunter and Lilith then destroy the Darkhold together in a massive explosion that ultimately consumes both of them.

You will likely be left to wonder whether Hunter deserved this ending. After all, Hunter is a new and engaging character who likely has many exciting storylines ahead of them. Once you move past the tragedy, you realize that Hunter was mostly just created for this one game. While this is sad, it’s within the understanding that Midnight Suns' developers would want to kill off the hero they created to give this game an added level of drama.

2 Is There One Ending Or Are There Multiple?

Midnight Suns Combat image of the final battle

Midnight Suns has one of the best last missions in any game. You see many companions in a better light at the conclusion than throughout the rest of the game. This final sequence is bittersweet and emotionally heavy. The final mission proceeds through a complex structure and resolves memorably.

That said, you may be left to wonder whether there's just one or if there are multiple endings to the game. After all, many other games featured multiple endings. While it might be confusing at first, given the ending's complexity, Midnight Suns only has one ending in the game.

1 Lilith’s Plans Don’t Make Much Sense?

LIlth's Face in Closing of Midnight Suns

Lilith comments towards the game's conclusion that it was her plan to ultimately stop and destroy Cthon. Lilith, however, is the one who sets the prophecy going in the first place. She also tells the Hunter that her collar is a negative placed on her by the Caretaker and that if she were to lose it, she’d be free.

The way that Lilith then responds makes no sense. We’ve seen Lilith plotting and wishing for too much evil to find at the last minute that Lilith actually wants to be good. Why this late change of heart? It feels like Midnight Suns' developers were aiming for another character development in a nuanced game but failed to ultimately explain this one.
