CD Projekt Red has confirmed that more details about Cyberpunk 2077's one and only major expansion are coming soon. Phantom Liberty will take the spotlight during Summer Game Fest on June 8, and we can expect the beginning of the marketing campaign around the same time.

Following the announcement of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's impressive milestone of 50 million copies sold, the Polish developer has now dropped hints about the imminent release of Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty in the coming months, currently expected to launch between June 8 and early July, if sources are correct. As of now, the company has limited itself to just a small announcement that the expansion "will be present at Summer Game Fest: Play Days," possibly hinting that it is preparing to begin a full-fledged marketing campaign for the project. The "Play Days" part also seems to indicate that there is some kind of in-depth demonstration of the title planned for the event.

Knowing how desperate fans are to learn more, a new image of the expansion's star Idris Elba as agent Solomon Reed has been shared, providing a closer look at the character's appearance in greater detail. We still know very little about the upcoming DLC, including its official launch date, but that is about to change. As the expansion's highly anticipated release draws near, it appears that CD Projekt Red has opted for a more concise marketing campaign, drawing valuable lessons from past instances of excessive hype.

CDPR is known for its large-scale expansions for the Witcher 3, and Phantom Liberty is shaping up to be no exception. According to a recent report, almost half of its total developers have been busy with Phantom Liberty as of April 2023. Additionally, substantial resources have also been allocated to the development of the new Witcher game, codenamed Polaris. It's worth noting that the expansion's progress since 2021 has reportedly been notably smoother compared to the development of Cyberpunk 2077. Hopefully, a similar pattern will follow with CDPR's future projects as well, of which there are many.

Waiting for the expansion for such a long time after the original game's release is pretty uncommon in the industry, and players are hopeful that it will be worth the wait. Everyone has their own expectations about how Phantom Liberty should fix Cyberpunk 2077's biggest issues, but there is a common desire for Night City to feel more vibrant and alive as initially promised. And no, the metro system won't be coming to the game, just get over it already.
