The Witcher spinoff, currently known only as Project Sirius is struck another blow as multiple developers are laid off. This comes just days after it was revealed that the game's development had been rebooted, following CD Projekt Red's decision earlier in the year to start from scratch.

While there's been no official announcement of these layoffs from either the developer The Molasses Flood or publisher CDPR, multiple workers have taken to Twitter to share the news. This hints that the job cuts come in response to Project Sirius's seemingly troubled development, cutting costs after much of the studio's resources would have been put into the scrapped version of this Witcher spin-off.

These layoffs were first reported by GamesRadar, who spotted several devs sharing that they had suddenly lost their job at The Molasses Flood, the American studio that is developing this mysterious Witcher spin-off. It's been noted that these layoffs span multiple departments, with job cuts seemingly across the board, regardless of role.

"Yesterday, I was laid off from Molasses Flood," says Robert Bailey, previous;y a technical narrative designer at the studio. "It's not as fun to update the bio this time. I enjoyed the work I'd been doing until my last day and would love to keep doing that."

As numerous other former Molasses Flood workers share that they are looking for more employment opportunities, Overwatch dev Matt Boehm confirms that "a number of talented folks were laid off" from the studio. It's not clear how many exactly have been caught up in the layoffs, but it's clearly enough to catch the attention of others in the industry.

CD Projekt Red is yet to comment on the matter. It has remained tight-lipped on much of Project Sirius's development, initially only commenting that it would be "an innovative take on The Witcher universe telling an unforgettable story". It will also be a co-op game, although seemingly still narrative focussed, even with the expected gameplay changes. It is said to be mostly developed by The Molasses Flood, with "support" from CDPR.

However, just months after its initial reveal, the first signs of trouble became apparent in March of this year. Here, CDPR announced that it would be scrapping the current build of the game, rebooting the project entirely. This came after a financial review, in which the company wasn't pleased with the game's "commercial potential." With this in mind, it adds to the theory that the recent layoffs are an effort to bring the game's cost down.
