Diablo 4 will feature a brand-new story where the Nephalem take on Lilith, the daughter of Mephisto, and the "blessed mother" of all humanity. You'll pursue Lilith across Sanctuary as her hatred consumes the hearts of humanity. From what little footage we've seen of the campaign, it looks like it'll be a fun few hours of gameplay before opening up to end-game activities, or perhaps even harder difficulty levels.

What you won't have to do is play through the main campaign multiple times on multiple characters. Although this was hinted at in leaked screenshots back in October, Diablo community director Adam Fletcher has confirmed that there will be a campaign skip feature available in Diablo 4. However, you "gotta beat the campaign once for this" feature to unlock.

I remember playing through Diablo 2's campaign dozens of times, but the allure of narration definitely waned with Diablo 3. It seems that the vast majority of Diablo fans are grateful for the feature and for Blizzard "respecting" a player's time, but there are some fans concerned that respect will come at a price.

Fans are specifically pointing to Destiny 2's pay-to-skip campaign feature. When the Lightfall expansion arrived, Destiny fans were dismayed to find that they too could skip the Lightfall campaign after beating it once, but it would cost them $20 for the privilege. It wasn't even that much of a skip since you still had to unlock all the new subclasses upgrades.

Now Diablo fans are worried that Blizzard might have decided to take a page out of Destiny's playbook. Diablo 4 will have a campaign skip, but whether it'll be free or not has yet to be answered.

There's also some concern about whether the campaign skip will be unlocked forever or if it might be unlocked once every season. We know that seasons will last three months and come with a battle pass that is expected to take 80 hours to complete, but it's not yet known whether seasonal activities might require campaign progress. Beating a campaign once every three months doesn't sound like too big of an ask so long as it's not once for every character, but we'll have to wait and see when the game releases in June.

What players won't need to be concerned with is getting to Diablo 4's level cap too quickly. Game director Joe Piepiora has confirmed it'll take most players over 150 hours to reach level 100, and that's not even getting into Diablo 4's end-game activities. Just remember that the Mother's Day beta coming up won't allow you to carry over progress when Diablo 4 releases on June 6.
