While the Sheikah Slate in Breath of the Wild offered up some interesting abilities to use, Link's new Zonai arm in Tears of the Kingdom means we get access to some fresh, ancient, god-like powers. We do have the Purah Pad which has returning features such as the camera and map, bomb flowers returning as a fan-favorite item instead of the remote bombs, and even ice items able to take the place of Cryonis - but this new arm is all the rage for Link to cause absolute chaos around Hyrule.

Some of these powers resemble those we were given in Breath of the Wild, so for most players, they will be at least a little familiar. However, each one finds new and interesting ways to allow you to interact with the world, tinker with the things in it, and do some unimaginable things. As if this kingdom hasn't been through enough, now Link is running around with the power of gods and the contraptions of war.

6 Amiibo

Okay, so less of an actual power and more of a way to include Amiibo functionality, this is a returning ability from Breath of the Wild. It seems the Zonai must have been big Amiibo collectors, as this power allows Link to summon some items and exclusive rewards using them.

It works in the exact same way as the Sheikah Slate version before it, though it is amusing that it's not even a feature of the Purah Pad and is straight from the Zonai arm. Using straight-up magic to get that Wind Waker-themed paraglider fabric? Absolutely fair.

5 Autobuild

Ranking the abilities from this point on is a little difficult to do, as - unlike how it felt in Breath of the Wild - each one seems to have frequent and consistent use. Autobuild is one that you won't get given right at the start of the game, and instead will have to discover as part of a kind-of-side-quest-but-kind-of-main-quest. It's easily missable, and might not be necessary to the game, but is one of the biggest quality-of-life features you will find yourself wanting.

This ability allows you to store schematics that you find throughout the world, save your favorite builds so that you can use them again, and pull up some of the most recent things you have constructed to quickly replicate them. You can place down the parts needed to build and have it ready in an instant, or even use Zonaite in place of components you don't have, fabricating them instead. It makes mid to late-game building so much easier once you have some regular builds, but is by no means the most vital.

4 Recall

In a seemingly big glow-up for the Stasis ability from BotW, Recall is incredibly vital and useful in so many scenarios. Traversal, puzzles, combat - whatever it is, you can easily pull out this ability and see what happens. Most of the time, the results are going to be entertaining.

Like Stasis, this ability lets you manipulate the time of an object. However, instead of just stopping it in place, it will rewind the object through whatever trajectory or path it just took. Use falling items as elevators back upwards, or send that Octorok rock right back at them. It's a simple ability, but one that you'll find so useful once you start implementing it into many different scenarios across your adventure.

3 Ascend

One of the newly introduced abilities that works mainly for traversal, Ascend is something you may forget about at first, but over time, you'll come to rely on it for so many situations. This power lets you shoot upwards and phase through whatever is above you, be it ceiling or rock.

Whether you need to reach a floating island just out of reach, take the express route out of a dark cave, or want to scale that cliff without the fear of the ever-looming stamina wheel, this ability is a life-saver. Once you start making good use of it, you'll realize how hard it is to go back to life without Ascend.

2 Ultrahand

Another ability that will seem quite familiar when first using it, Ultrahand functions in much the same way as BotW's Magnesis. However, this time around, you are able to pick up and move just about any loose object, rather than just things made of metal. Also, you can now rotate the items freely, allowing you to position things exactly as you want them.

However, the biggest function of Ultrahand that plays a huge part in Tears of the Kingdom is the ability to stick items together. Using some strange, green Zonai glue, Link can build all sorts of contraptions, devices, and vehicles in order to achieve - well - just about anything. This is something to truly let your imagination run wild with, and seeing all of the community-made contraptions on the internet just speaks to how exciting and unique this feature is. Still, it's not the most unique one available...

1 Fuse

Many games feature weapon crafting; gather components, alter the look of something, and upgrade its power to make it into something even better - all of this is nothing new. Taking this a step further, however, is Tears of the Kingdom's Fuse ability. With this, Link can take just about anything and stick it to his weapon, shield, and even arrows. This can be as useful as you want it to be.

Stick a high-grade Zonai blade to a sturdy stick, and you have yourself a powerful sword. On the other hand, why not stick that bottle of Lon Lon Milk to a shield? It probably won't help much, but it's funny. You can also use elemental items in order to inflict that type of damage, either offensively or defensively. As for arrows... well, just take whatever you want, shove it on the end of an arrow, and fire away. Something is bound to happen.

For the sake of versatility, Fuse has to be the best new power in Tears of the Kingdom. From being your primary source of weapon management, to comic relief, to other genuine uses such as firing off Lightbloom Seeds in the Depths in order to provide some light in the distance, this ability will stretch across almost every conceivable scenario you could find yourself in. And after all, who doesn't want a piece of meat stuck to a mop? Don't answer that.
