Dragon's Dogma 2 was revealed to be in development last year, though we got very little in the way of details or a release date. Well, Capcom has delivered the goods this year, as it gave us some official gameplay to fawn over. We see a multitude of characters fighting a bunch of different beasts, including some kind of cat man, which hints at more expanded customization options this time around.

Just like in the first game, we also see a bunch of beasties that can be climbed while fighting them, as well as some very vague story details that hint at an epic quest. Unfortunately, we didn't get a look at any kind of pawn system which featured in the first game, or a release date for that matter. That means we'll probably be waiting until late 2024 for the full release, possibly 2025 depending on how far along development is at the moment.

There's was also a fair amount of focus on combat, though it all looked rather flashy with very little explanation as to how it all functions. However, we do see a nice range of weapons and spells being used, including standrad swords, big claymores, bows, and a variety of magical devices that are being used to fling fire and lightning. It looks like typical Dragon's Dogma pretty much, and its freedom of choice regarding characters and builds looks to be relatively similar to the first.

While details during the show were fairly light, we can glean a little more from the description of the official trailer uploaded by Capcom. In it, Capcom confirms the return of the pawn system from the first game, explaining that they'll join you in "an adventure so unique you will feel as if accompanied by other players". It also states that these elements will be "elevated further by the latest in graphics, artificial intelligence (AI) and physics technology" , so it sounds like Capcom is attmepting to create a rather ambitious sequel.

There was plenty to get excited about besides Dragon's Dogma during the showcase, including a new trailer for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 which featured Peter Parker in the symbiote suit. We also got to see the reveal of the Metal Gears Solid: Snake Eater remake, as well as a release dates and some gameplay for both Assassin's Creed Mirage and Alan Wake 2. Plenty of stuff to look forward to this year already, and we haven't even seen what reveals the rest of the summer is about to bring. Hopefully, this year's Summer Game Fest will put on just as good of a show.
