Marvel's Spider-Man 2 ended up saving what would have been a pretty dull showcase PlayStation Showcase for many, giving us a first look at some gameplay as well as a few surprises along the way. One of the biggest was the reveal that Peter Parker is wearing the symbiote suit for this adventure, a sign that Venom might be more closely linked to the main story than we expected.

We know that Venom will be included in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 in some capacity, although his identity remains a mystery. Venom has had several alter ego's across all of Spider-Man media, so it's not a guarantee that Eddie Brock is the one behind the massive snarling grin this time around. It's due to this mystery that many are still speculating as to who Venom might actually be, and this latest trailer has a fair few Spider-Man fans thinking that Peter Parker himself could take a vicious turn.

There are two pieces of evidence being put forward for this theory, the first of which is included in the trailer itself. Towards the end of the gunship fight scene, several fans noticed that Peter Parker's eyes change and sharpen ever so slightly when he delivers his slightly corny "so do I" line after Miles says Lizard has "big teeth". Many believe that this shape slightly resembles Venom's eyes, and could be a small hint at Peter's transformation later in the game.

The second is the Ultimate comic series, which sees Peter Parker turn into Venom and almost kill a man after he loses control. While it has nothing to do with Marvel's Spider-Man 2, it does set a precedent that even Peter Parker could turn into a hulking monster should he be exposed to the symbiote for too long, and some fans think Insomniac is teasing a fight between Peter and Miles in which the latter has to forcefully remove the symbiote from Peter to get him back.

Of course, these are just fan theories, and the lumbering giant Venom that we saw in the game's first trailer could simply be either Eddie Brock or Harry Osbourne once Peter actually ditches the symbiote himself. It's an exciting proposition though, and one that isn't even that unlikely considering the powers we saw Peter using during today's trailer. Unfortunately, we won't be able to see if theories are correct for a while yet, but at least we only have to wait until Fall this year to find out.
